What we're reading, week of October 26

Six tips from other Columbus food writers that stay here until an owner page, permit or city record backs them up. Status: Roundup.

These six came from other local writers over the past week. For each one we searched for something we could cite on our own, such as a filing, a city document or the owner's site, and came up short. Each entry links the outside report and says what we tried.

  • Endeavor Brewing and Spirits in Grandview - Breakfast With Nick and The Columbus Dispatch report the brewery will close its taproom at 909 W. Fifth Ave. on October 29 after 10 years, citing a social media post from the owners. Endeavor's own website still lists taproom hours, and the Instagram post is not readable to us without a login. The column adds that Barrel and Bloom, the brewery's second taproom and coffee shop, stays open for now.
  • Q2 China Bistro at Polaris - 614NOW says the restaurant at 472 Polaris Pkwy. closes October 28 after 20 years, quoting its Facebook page. The restaurant's website shows no closing notice, and the Facebook page does not load for us.
  • Canario in the Short North - Breakfast With Nick points to his Columbus Monthly story on a new fine dining restaurant headed for the Short North. So far no owner site, liquor filing or permit has turned up for us.
  • Barkada House in the Discovery District - Breakfast With Nick cites an Instagram post about a members-only spot for food, music, film and culture coming in 2027. The barkadahouse.com page is a private sign-up with no address or date.
  • Paris Baguette in Upper Arlington - Breakfast With Nick visits the bakery cafe and walks through its pastries and savory menu. We did not find an Upper Arlington page on the chain's own website.
  • The Fiery Death at Mikey's Late Night Slice - The same column says the super spicy pizza returns to the Grandview shop October 26 through November 1, with an eating challenge on October 28. Mikey's website did not load for us this week.

Two other brewery closings this fall have their own pages, Hoster Brewing on James Road and Outerbelt Brewing. Any tip here that gains a primary source moves to Openings or Closings, past lists are collected on the reading hub, while the Grandview Heights page covers the area around this week's lead item. Mikey's Polaris shop has its own story from September.
