Sunbury has a new Italian bakery with deep Columbus roots. Pegasus Bread Company is serving at 490 Commerce Drive, and its contact page says the doors open at 8 in the morning and close at 6 in the evening Thursday through Saturday, and on Sunday the shop runs from 7 until 3. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday are dark days. The phone number is 740-972-1392.

Founder Marco Auddino comes from a Columbus family that has baked Italian bread for generations, and he later ran his own bakery in Florida for eight years before coming home, according to the bakery history on its site. He is a Big Walnut graduate, which is why the flagship landed in Sunbury. Breakfast With Nick first reported the opening in its October 22 roundup.

The posted menu leans on the classics. Cannoli run $3 small and $5 large, with five fillings including roasted almond, and the case also holds sfogliatelle, a $9 lobster tail, cream horns, Danish and pignoli, amaretti and tri-color rainbow cookies at $2 apiece. Whole cakes such as cassata and tiramisu are $20. Italian rounds, ciabatta, baguettes and focaccia come out of the oven daily at prices that change with the batch. Espresso is $3, and gelato and granita start at $4 for a small cup.

A savory side is marked as coming soon. It lists an Italian sub for $10, a meatball sub for $10.50, a $15 muffaletta on focaccia, and traditional or focaccia pizzas from $12 for a 12-inch pie, plus baked wings and a tomato salad named for Mama Rosa. No start date is given for that menu yet.
