Indoor haunts, a real prison, scream parks and lantern tours, all confirmed open this October.

Best Haunted Houses in Columbus, Ohio

Our Best Of list ranks the ticketed scare attractions confirmed open this October, checked against each operator's own site for dates and address. Fear Columbus takes Best Overall for three new indoor haunts and a season that runs to November 1. Behind it are a real prison, an adults only contact haunt in Pataskala, a theme park after dark, a rebuilt East Columbus house, a Wilmington scream park and four lantern nights at the Statehouse. If you would rather hear a ghost story than get chased by one, our Haunted Columbus guide to ghost tours and spooky history in the Guides section covers the walking tours, cemetery nights and investigations. When a haunt lets out near midnight, our late night food guide knows who is still cooking, and a Statehouse tour pairs neatly with our cheap date night guide. For orchards, pumpkin patches and the rest of the season, see our guide on how to do fall in Columbus. Neighborhoods and towns covered: North Side, Pataskala, East Columbus, Downtown, Mansfield, Mason and Wilmington.

Why Fear Columbus Is Our Best Overall Pick

Fear Columbus is Best Overall because nothing else in the metro stacks three fresh walkthroughs in one building: Shadow Pines, a campground gone feral, Dearly Departed: Critical Conditions, a funeral-home body snatching story, and Oddballs Show Stopper. The former 13th Floor building off Northland Plaza Drive is now locally run, the sets were rebuilt for this season, and the doors stay open all the way to Sunday, November 1. October Saturdays sell out, so book a Thursday or Sunday slot if you want shorter lines.
