Best Hot Chocolate in Columbus, Ohio

We ranked five Columbus cafes that list hot chocolate or hot cocoa on their own menus, checked October 30 and 31 as the clocks fall back and evenings turn cold. We read each cafe's posted menu, prices and hours, and we looked at what makes each cup different: the chocolate used, what goes on top, the price and whether the cafe is open after dark. The ranking rewards shops where chocolate is central to the business, then a named chocolate or house-made topping, then hours that fit an evening out. We did not taste these drinks for this update, so the list describes menus, not flavor.

Why Chocolate Cafe Is Our Best Overall Pick

Chocolate Cafe on Northwest Boulevard is the only pick here where chocolate is the whole business, a woman-owned cafe serving the Grandview Heights and Upper Arlington area since 2007. It stays open until 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and its drink menu lists a spiked hot chocolate beside spiked coffee and mimosa flights. For parties, carafes of hot chocolate serve 10 to 12 people. A second shop on South High Street in the Brewery District handles carry-out.
