What we're reading, week of October 12

Eight tips from other Columbus newsrooms that stay here until an owner post, permit or city page confirms them. Status: Roundup.

Eight items other Columbus newsrooms ran in the past week. None has a primary source we can cite yet, so each line links to the original story and says what we found when we looked for the owner or a record.

  • Captain D's in Whitehall - 614NOW says the express drive-thru on East Main Street is boarded up and no longer listed by the chain. The brand store finder loads by script, so we could not pull a list to cite.
  • Red Rabbit Ramen - 614NOW reports the ramen cart has shut down. Its own website still shows Friday and Saturday hours on the Honest Friend Brewing patio on South High Street through the end of October.
  • AstroLab Matcha on Lane Avenue - The Lantern first reported a cultivar-focused matcha concept opening Friday inside Milky Way Matcha in Upper Arlington. The AstroLab domain is an under-construction page and the Milky Way site does not mention it yet.
  • El Burrito Bowl in Worthington - 614NOW covers a birria and torta counter in a Wilson Bridge Road plaza from a former Bubbly Hall vendor. The domain we tried points at an unrelated business.
  • Tonchin Ramen in the Short North - What Now Columbus says the Tokyo-born ramen brand will move into 965 N. High St., where Mecha Noodle Bar used to be. No date yet, and the brand site did not load from our desk.
  • Anne's Kitchen and 1801 Tavern - 614NOW reports the Powell diner owners have taken over the Sawmill Road sports bar. The tavern site blocked our check, so we have not seen the change on an owner page.
  • Flamin' Feathers in Delaware - What Now Columbus quotes the co-founder on a hot chicken room at 132 London Road aiming for mid-December. Until the franchisee or the city posts something we can cite, it stays on this list.
  • Gallery Cocktails & Bites - What Now Columbus, citing Columbus Business First, describes a cocktail lounge from the HydeOut owners in the former Brandt-Roberts Gallery at 642 N. High St. for December.

True Food Kitchen at Easton skipped this list because the company release and its own store directory backed up the closing, so it has a story of its own this week. Tips that clear the same bar get their own story in Openings or Closings. Past weeks are collected at the reading hub, with more background on our Short North and Upper Arlington pages.
