Trader Joe's has applied to sell beer and wine at the store it is building in Polaris. A liquor permit notice filed for Monday's Columbus City Council meeting on October 19 shows Trader Joe's East Inc. seeking C-1 and C-2 classes for "Trader Joes #889" at 2109 Ikea Way. The City Clerk's office logged it with five other permit notices received as of October 14, filed together as C0039-2026.

Columbus Business First first reported the Polaris store in July, after plans for a standalone building across from Topgolf reached the city. The company has confirmed the project without naming a date. "We have plans for a new store in Columbus," a spokesperson told 614NOW.

Both classes on the application are carryout permits. C-1 covers beer in sealed containers and C-2 covers wine and prepackaged mixed drinks, the mix a grocery store typically stocks. The notice lists October 24 as its advertising date and October 29 as the return date, the deadline for the city to respond to the state.

For shoppers north of Interstate 270, this is the first state filing we have seen for the store, after months of city building permits. Central Ohio has had two Trader Joe's for about two decades, on Sawmill Road and at Easton. The company has not set an opening day, and we will post one when it or the city does.

Polaris has added several food spots this fall, including Lox Bagel Shop and Mikey's Late Night Slice. More is on the Polaris page and in the Openings feed.
