Columbus composer and drummer Dr. Mark Lomax II leads the Lincoln Theatre's annual North Star Concert with Dean Hulett, Dr. William Menefield and Edwin Bayard on November 13, 2026.
The North Star Concert returns to the Lincoln Theatre on Friday, November 13, 2026, at 7:00 p.m., led by composer and drummer Dr. Mark Lomax II with band members Dean Hulett, Dr. William Menefield and Edwin Bayard. It is the Lincoln Theatre Association's annual signature concert, built to spotlight Black voices and artistry.
Lomax holds a doctorate in composition and music theory from Ohio State, and his writing draws on jazz, gospel, classical and the wider Black musical tradition. He has toured with the Delfeayo Marsalis Sextet and played alongside Clark Terry, Ellis Marsalis, Billy Harper, Bennie Maupin and Azar Lawrence. His best-known project is 400: An Afrikan Epic, a 12-album cycle released in 2019 that moves through the history and future of the African diaspora.
Lomax says each piece on the program is about storytelling and connection, and with a quartet of longtime collaborators the music should have room to stretch.
