Barksdale is a folk and Americana songwriter from Texas who began performing his own songs at age nine. He has since shared bills with Wynonna Judd, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Junior Brown, John Fullbright and Hayes Carll. He signed with Truly Handmade Records, the label formed by the estate of Guy Clark, and released a full-length album there in June 2025 with a long list of guests. Before that came the EP Out of Order in 2024 and an instrumental set, Phantom Trails, in 2023. His streams on Spotify have passed five million.

He plays guitar, slide, harmonica, mandolin, piano and ukulele, but calls himself a songwriter first, and his influences run from Lead Belly and Howlin' Wolf to Townes Van Zandt and Leonard Cohen. He also hosts the Roots Revival podcast about songwriting.
