Christmas with C.S. Lewis at Lincoln Theatre

Christmas with C.S. Lewis plays the Lincoln Theatre, 769 East Long Street, at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 16, 2026. The play is set on Christmas Eve at Lewis's home near Oxford, where the author is entertaining a group of Americans spending the holiday in England.

Over the evening Lewis shares holiday memories that swing from funny to wistful. The thread running through them is how his view of Christmas changed. As a young man he dismissed the nativity story as a comforting myth, until a conversation with his friend and fellow writer J.R.R. Tolkien, who argued that it was the one myth that was true. That exchange started Lewis on the road from atheism to Christianity and reshaped how he celebrated the season.

The show suits fans of Narnia and Mere Christianity as much as theatre regulars. It is a facility rental at the restored Lincoln, with tickets through CAPA.
