Touch-technique pioneer Stanley Jordan headlines the free 30th annual Jazz Guitar Festival at Denison University's Eisner Center in Granville on October 30, 2026.
Stanley Jordan headlines Denison University's 30th annual Jazz Guitar Festival at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 30, 2026, in Sharon Martin Hall at the Michael D. Eisner Center for the Performing Arts in Granville. The concert is free, but tickets are required and have been available since October 5.
Jordan changed what the guitar could do with his two-handed tapping style, called the touch technique, which lets him play bass lines, chords, and melody at once. His 1985 album Magic Touch held the top spot on the Billboard jazz chart for 51 weeks. A Princeton graduate and trained pianist, he has four Grammy nominations and has played in more than 60 countries.
The festival opens Thursday, October 29, at 8:00 p.m. in Burke Recital Hall with founder Tom Carroll, who started the event in 1997, plus guitarist William Flynn; that show needs no ticket. Jordan also teaches a free masterclass Friday at 3:00 p.m., and guitarists are invited to bring instruments.
