Shawn James, the Arkansas-based singer behind "Through the Valley," brings his Flew Too Close to the Sun Tour to The Bluestone on Sunday, October 18, 2026.
Shawn James plays The Bluestone on Sunday, October 18, 2026, on his Flew Too Close to the Sun Tour. PromoWest has the converted church on East Broad opening at 7:00 p.m. for an all-ages crowd.
James grew up on Chicago's South Side, sang in a Pentecostal church choir as a kid, and later worked as a studio engineer in Nashville before moving to Fayetteville, Arkansas, in 2012 to busk downtown. That same year he cut "Through the Valley," the dark folk song Ashley Johnson covered in the reveal trailer for The Last of Us Part II. The song has since passed 60 million streams, and his own recording plays on Ellie's headphones in the game.
His records swing between gospel-weighted blues, Americana and heavy, stomping folk, sometimes with his band The Shapeshifters. A voice trained in opera and choir fits a room that was built as a sanctuary, which makes this stop a good match of artist and building.
