The Columbus Symphony and Symphony Chorus perform Handel's Messiah at the Southern Theatre December 18 through 20, 2026, with two evenings and a Sunday matinee.
The Columbus Symphony brings Handel's Messiah to the Southern Theatre, 21 East Main Street, for three performances: Friday, December 18, 2026, at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, December 19, at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, December 20, at 3:00 p.m. The Columbus Symphony Chorus sings the oratorio, the orchestra's yearly December tradition.
The Southern is the smallest of the downtown CAPA houses, built in 1896, and its size changes the experience. A chorus and orchestra fill the room easily, and the famous Hallelujah chorus arrives at close range. Many audiences still stand for it, a custom that dates back centuries.
The Sunday matinee is the easiest pick for families and anyone who prefers to be home before dark. The symphony plays this season under music director Rossen Milanov, and tickets for all three dates are sold through CAPA.
